20 Year Birthday Bash

Celebrating 20 Years of HGM Construction: A Night to Remember

Twenty years ago, HGM Construction started with a single excavator, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to take on challenges. As we celebrated this milestone with our team, clients, suppliers, family, and friends, it was the perfect opportunity to reflect on the people, projects, and partnerships that have shaped our journey.

Over the past 20 years, we’ve been fortunate to work on some incredible projects, build lasting relationships, and grow alongside a team of talented people who continue to shape our business every day.

From our involvement in Christchurch’s post-earthquake recovery to delivering remote infrastructure projects such as the St James Cycle Trail, many of our most memorable milestones have been built on strong partnerships and a willingness to take on challenges. These projects not only helped shape our business but also created friendships and relationships that continue today.

In 2016, another important chapter began when Katy Murrell – Hamish’s wife, joined the business. Her leadership across compliance, systems, financial management, and health and safety has played a significant role in strengthening the foundations of HGM and supporting the growth we’ve experienced over the past decade.

We’ve also had the privilege of being involved in landmark projects such as the Christchurch Adventure Park, where our role evolved from initial site works through to major infrastructure construction. Looking back, projects like these represent the trust our clients have placed in us and the capability of our team to deliver in challenging environments.

While we’re proud of the projects we’ve completed, our greatest achievement has always been our people. Our team, past and present, along with their families, have made HGM what it is today. Their commitment, hard work, and willingness to go the extra mile have helped create a culture we’re incredibly proud of.

As we look to the future, we’re excited about the opportunities ahead. We’ll continue taking on larger and more technical projects while staying true to the values that have guided us from the beginning. Most importantly, we’ll continue investing in our people, maintaining our culture, and building the relationships that have been central to our success.

Celebrating 20 years was about more than recognising projects and milestones. It was about acknowledging the people, partnerships, and memories that have helped shape HGM Construction.

To everyone who has been part of our journey, thank you. We’re excited for what comes next.
